2025-03-11 IDOPRESS

HONG KONG,March 10,2025 -- Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong (Gleneagles) is excited to be the first private hospital in Asia to offer Histotripsy treatment, the transformative and non-invasive technology that uses high-intensity ultrasound waves to destroy tumours for liver cancer patients. The service will commence towards the end of March.

Histotripsy was first introduced in Hong Kong lastAugust through a donation by the Li Ka Shing Foundation to the LKS Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong andinitially available in the public healthcare sector on a clinical trial basis. The successful applications and sound clinical outcomes of the technology have paved the way for its expansion into the private sector, and wegreatly appreciatehaving the first HistoSonics system placed at Gleneagles in order to make this groundbreaking and effective treatment available to more patients.

Dr Kenneth Tsang,Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and Regional Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare North Asia, said,"We are excited to be Asia's first private hospital to offer this novel treatment to local patients with our fully-trained medical team. Gleneagles strives to drive excellent clinical outcomes and personalised patient care through actively introducing innovative and cutting-edge treatments, and we believe this groundbreaking technology will be a game-changer for cancer treatment. As a university teaching hospital, wealso continuously facilitate research and clinical adoption of advanced medical innovations. In tandem with offering this treatment, our team looks forward to contributing to the research on the wider application of this technology to other types of cancers, bringing more options and new hope to more local and regional patients."

Histotripsy is an innovative,non-invasive treatment utilising focused ultrasound to target and destroy liver tumours. The technology allows doctors to treat tumours without any incision, radiation or needle, offering a promising alternative to traditional treatments particularly for patients who are not candidates for surgery. Compared to traditional treatments,Histotripsy treatment typically involves minimal pain and fewer side effects and complications. Its non-invasive feature allows shorter hospital stay and much quicker recovery. Subject to patients' individual conditions,in general, patients can be discharged on the next day after the treatment.

Second opinion service is also available for patients residing outside Hong Kong and are arranged through the hospital's International Patient Services.
